New Borderlands being ‘built specifically’ for Xbox One and PS4

More power means more guns!

Borderlands 3, or whatever the newly announced Borderlands game ends up being called, is being developed "specifically for next-gen consoles." That is, Xbox One and PS4 for those who get confused with all the last-gen/next-gen terminology.

Take-Two Interactive didn't talk much about the new Borderlands game, but did briefly bring it up when discussing their future plans.

"Looking further ahead, we have robust long-term pipeline of titles in development, including groundbreaking new intellectual properties and new releases from our proven franchises," Take-Two President Karl Slatoff. "For example, we can confirm that 2K and Gearbox Software will develop an all-new Borderlands game built specifically for next-gen consoles."

That's some comforting news considering Gearbox has been hesitant to bring the franchise to new consoles. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel was built entirely for last-gen systems and is only just now making its way to Xbox One and PS4 as part of The Handsome Collection. While it's exciting we'll finally be able to play Borderlands on our new consoles, having one developed specifically with these upgraded specs in mind is much more appealing. We don't know if the new Borderlands will also appear on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Unfortunately, we don't know when the new Borderlands will arrive as Take-Two wouldn't shed light on a possible fiscal '16 launch. Gearbox Software only recently announced that they are "ready to start" development on a new Borderlands, with Randy Pitchford, the studio's CEO, actively searching for talented people to help work on the game.
