Neversoft No Longer Tony Hawk Developer

Neversoft head Joel Jewett reveals that the developer will no longer work on future entries to the skateboarding franchise

In an interview with his hometown paper the Great Falls Tribune in Great Falls, Montana, Neversoft co-founder and president Joel Jewett confirmed today that the developer will no longer be working on the Tony Hawk skateboarding franchise. The series has been developed by Neversoft since its inception in 1999, when it debuted on the Sony Playstation.

With entries nearly every year across several different platforms, the Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise has been among the most successful and popular series for the developer and for publisher Activision. 2008 saw the series being placed on a break as Neversoft continued to work on entries to another huge Activision franchise, Guitar Hero, which it began developing following the purchase of series creator Harmonix by MTV Games in 2006.

When revealing that the Tony Hawk series would be handled by a different developer in the future, Jewett said, “It's probably best for the franchise ... it's time for someone else to add fresh ideas to it.”
