Naughty Dog discussed a PS3 Jak & Daxter, but disregarded it

With Jak & Daxter Collection slated for launch on the PlayStation 3 tomorrow, a lot of people might be wondering what's next for the series. I've personally been wondering that myself as I always considered Jak & Daxter a mainstay of Sony's brand of video game software. According to Naughty Dog Co-President Evan Wells, it doesn't look like the developer will be moving forward with the series, especially since it's currently focusing all of its efforts on The Last of Us.

"All the ideas just started to feel like they were going so far away from what made Jak and Daxter Jak and Daxter," said wells in an interview with GameInformer. "Even though we wanted to give fans another Jak and Daxter, we felt we weren't going to give them the game that they wanted, and that we would end up either limiting the direction that the company had this passion for while simultaneously not creating the game that fans wanted. We just realized we were going to just do everybody a disservice."

Wells went on to say that there's a chance the Uncharted team could work on a new Jak & Daxter title, but that would be unlikely. "Never say never," said the Naughty Dog co-president. “I guess there's a possibility that the Uncharted team could move on to Jak and Daxter. It's still up in the air, but I wouldn't think that's going to happen, because I think we'd run into all of the same problems with that team that we did with this team."

So yeah, it doesn't look like we'll be getting a new Jak & Daxter game soon. Hell, the way Wells worded his comments, it almost seems as if we'll probably never get a new Jak & Daxter. That's really a shame, because the fan base is there, and there's no doubt that a new entry in the series on the PlayStation 3 could have made a lot of fans very happy gamers.
