Minicraft 2, Not Minecraft, In the Works

Notch took to Twitter yesterday, announcing that Minicraft 2, NOT Minecraft, is being worked on.  That's right, dashing the hopes of thousands of Twitterers and fans who were hoping for a new Minecraft game, Notch confirmed that it was Minicraft.  With what could've been 1 slip-up of a letter, Notch almost "gave the internet a brain explosion".

For those who don't know, Minicraft is Markus "Notch" Persson's Ludum Dare game which he created in 48 hours for the competition a little over a week ago.  The contest pits developers against each other to see who can create the best new product in 48 hours.

During this competition, Notch crafted Minicraft – the little sister of Minecraft.  This ‘top-down’ action game has similar aspects to Minecraft but without layers.  A player can chop trees, fight slimes, flight zombies, run through water, collect items, etc.  The graphics remind of the original Final Fantasy and plays like the original Zelda.

Notch said that the new Minicraft 2 game is being worked on "for no good reason", but did admit that "it needs a better name".  Maybe Notch has too much time on his hands now that he handed over lead-developer duties to Jens Bergensten for Minecraft.  Of course, knowing the popularity of Notch, this Minicraft 2 game will turn into the next big thing.  Everything this guy touches turns to gold.
