Minecraft creator Notch names new game 'MiniTale'

Minecraft creator, Markus 'Notch' Persson, announced last week that he began working on Minicraft 2 - the game he created in 48 hours for Ludum Dare competition.

Not only was the gameplay similar to Minecraft, but the title was as well, leading some people to mistakenly read "Minecraft 2".  Of course, he REALLY did mean Minicraft 2 (with an I).

At the time, however, Notch admitted that the game needed a "better name".  Given the easily mistakable names, I tend to agree with him.  It looks like he found one, and just a few minutes ago he shared it with the world via Twitter.  The name for his new game will be MiniTale.

"Finally came up with a decent name for <the_game_i_need_to_rename>! MiniTale. Even snagged the .com and .net for it, yay"

Currently, the sites are just placeholders, which is understandable seeing as how he just thought of the name and bought the domain names.

Earlier, Notch said that he was working on his Ludum Dare game - which is a 'top down' action game with similar aspects to Minecraft - for "no good reason".  In the game created for the competition players could chop trees, fight slimes, fight zombies, run through water, collect items, and do a few more things in a watered down version of the game.

With the success of Minecraft, I fully expect MiniTale to be just as popular and addicting, even without knowing his plans for the game.
