Minecraft Adding Item Enchantments, Screenshot Revealed

It looks like Minecraft is adding Item Enchantments in addition to the armour system.

In a tweet today, Markus 'Notch' Perrson announced a new feature coming to world of Minecraft.

"Working on Item Enchantments. It costs experience points. It's totally random. It has three tiers. What does an enchantment table look like?"

I guess he figured out that last question pretty quickly, because he followed that up with another tweet leaking the image of what the enchantment table will look like in-game.

Minecraft Enchantment Table

Notch revealed that enchanting in Minecrafts works when "you open a magical book and pick a random spell, not quite sure knowing what it will do. MAGIC!"  So it really is all random.  I wonder what type of enchantments Notch has in store for us.

There was no confirmation as to how many enchantments there are, or when Item Enchantements are going to be added to Minecraft.  Notch did say he was planning on adding "two more features" before implementing a "code freeze" where they focus on fixing bugs before the official Minecraft launch in November.  I think it's safe to say this could be one of the features.

I'd expect it in the official 1.9 Adventure Update which should add even more depth for those more interested in exploring and adventuring than building.  With the armour system, enchantment system, and new mobs, those looking for more of an adventure-type game should have plenty to do.

What do you think of Item Enchantements? What type of Enchantements would you like to see?
