Microsoft Looking to Develop Original Shows for Xbox LIVE

According to "people with knowledge of the company's plans", Microsoft is said to be looking to hire a television executive to develop original shows.  Bloomberg is reporting the hiring search is in an effort to expand the Xbox LIVE game and video service.

Sources have claimed Microsoft has hired Tom Schneider, a parter at STratis LLC, to conduct the search.  Two former NBC executives, Marc Graboff and Jeff Gaspin, have been approached, they said.

Made apparent by the recent Dashboard Update, Microsoft is clearly trying to turn the Xbox 360 from a gaming machine to an entertainment hub, introducing a new TV service with programs from almost 40 TV and entertainment suppliers.  In addition to the new TV service, the Xbox 360 offers Xbox LIVE members access to Netflix, HuluPlus, Facebook, Zune marketplace, Twitter and much more.

Microsoft is attempting to replicate its success of creating top-selling games with custom developed programs.  This would help Microsoft differentiate the service from similar offers by competitors.

One of the sources claim Microsoft is only interested in hiring if it can find the right person, and it is possible that no one will be chosen for the job.
