Mass Effect 3 takes #1 spot in UK sales since last week's debut

Last week saw the release of Mass Effect 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, Unit 13 and Asura's Wrath.  As we expected, Mass Effect 3 won out, claiming the top spot in UK sales, amassing more sales than the previous number one games: SSX, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, UFC Undisputed 3, and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

GfK Chart Track doesn't reveal specific numbers, but it's safe to say EA is sitting comfortably on Mass Effect 3's sales, which reportedly sold 890,000 copies in the United States in just the first 24 hours.

Compared to the previous titles, Mass Effect 3 has sold more than both Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 combined, although this was the first time a Mass Effect game was released on all platforms simultaneously.  Previous installments of the franchise were staggered on separate platforms.

73% of Mass Effect 3's boxed sales were on the Xbox 360, although that doesn't count digital downloads on the PS3 or PC.

As a result of Mass Effect 3's dominance, previous #1 SSX slipped into 2nd place with a 49% drop in sales.  Capcom's new release, Street Fighter X Tekken debuted at number 3.  Rounding out the top 5 is EA with FIFA 12 and Mario Party 9.

Other top 10 games in UK sales include Modern Warfare 3, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, and new expansion The Sims 3: Showtime.
