Live-action Ghost in the Shell movie casts main villain

I hope this movie isn't awful.

Just over a year ago, we started hearing about a live-action version of Ghost in the Shell that was in production with Scarlet Johansson taking the lead role of Motoko Kusanagi (or some rendition of her). At the moment, the film is set to release in March 31, 2017, with filming beginning in New Zealand, Hong Kong, and China this month.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Pitt, best known for his roles in Boardwalk Empire, as well as Hannibal and the film Seven Psychopaths, will appear in the film as the main villain. It's being reported that Pitt will be depicting the Laughing Man.

The Laughing Man villain isn't actually from the proper Ghost in the Shell series, but is from the spinoff series, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

Snow White and the Huntsman's director Rupert Sanders, with a script originally written by William Wheeler and Jamie Moss, but re-worked by the Straight Outta Compton writer.
