Latest Modern Warfare 3 Pre-Orders Look Even with Black Ops, Maybe Slightly Higher
With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 set to release tonight at midnight, it looks like the pre-order numbers are at least on par with Black Ops. According to VG Chartz estimates, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has sold about 4 million pre-order copies as of the week ending November 5. Remember this is only an estimate, and with the sales numbers only including up to November 5th, it still leaves two days open in the race.
As of the 5th, Modern Warfare 3 has sold 2,813,178 copies on the Xbox 360, 1,219,070 on the PS3, 113,479 copies on PC, and 45,797 copies on the Wii. These pre-orders combine for a total of 4,191,524 sales.
In comparison, according to VG Chartz Call of Duty: Black Ops sold a little over 4.5 million pre-orders. Activision estimated that pre-orders for Modern Warfare 3 were already "significantly ahead" of Black Ops back in August, but it looks like things might have slowed down. That being said, these pre-order numbers are just an estimate and Modern Warfare 3 might have already surpassed Black Ops in pre-orders. We won't know until Activision releases the official figures or statement.
The pre-orders these past few days could determine if Modern Warfare 3 pre-orders will surpass Black Ops numbers. This could be a good estimate to use in terms of whether or not Modern Warfare 3 will surplant Black Ops as the best selling game of all time. Of course, it has quite a way to go as Black Ops has sold roughly 25 million copies since it's launch in 2010.
