Kaz Hirai Becomes New SCEI Chairman

Kaz Hirai has leveled up. According to Sony, the former president and group CEO has been promoted to chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Additionally, Hirai's former roles were taken over by Andrew House, formerly the company's executive vice president.

These are definitely major moves, and they were a result of Akira Sato leaving his position as chairman of SCEI. Ken Kutaragi also left his position as honorary chairman yesterday, taking on the job of senior technology advisor. I have no idea why anyone would want to leave an honorary position for something that seemingly requires more work, but that's just me. Then again, I could definitely see myself getting bored of being an "honorary writer."

Sato's retirement will be effective August 31. Expect Hirai and House to take on their positions at SCEI the following day, September 1. These changes could mean nothing, as we'll likely see things stay the same for the most part early on. Unless, of course, Hirai begins some sort of crazy Ridge Racer campaign.
