Website Hints That NGP May Be Indeed Called Vita

Yesterday we reported on rumors about the tentatively titled Sony NGP, which a source claimed is to be called the PlayStation Vita when it launches. Vita means “life,” so if the name is official, it’s likely that Sony is trying to link this new portable device with … well, I don’t really understand what they’re going for. To be honest, the name PlayStation Vita sounds kind of lame to me.

In any case, it’s possible that Vita may be the official name of the handheld gaming device. It appears that Sony has registered the subdomain vita.scedev.net. What does this all mean?

For me, it means that the company’s next handheld will have a weak name. Of course, nothing is 100 percent official until the folks over at Sony say so themselves. And I for one really hope that when E3 comes around, they choose a completely different name.

System names aside, I’m sure we all want Sony to make a big splash when the NGP is showcased at the big press event in Los Angeles next week. It’s going to be interesting to see what they have planned for their show. Hopefully they’ll reveal an exact launch date and pricing details–oh, and some original games for the handheld would be cool, too.
