In Case You Forgot: 3DS eShop Launched Today

Do you know what today is? Aside from the first day of E3. Did you really forget? OK, I can’t say I blame you. I mean, one of the biggest events in the video game industry is going on this very moment.

But if you did forget what else is going on today besides manufacturer and publisher press conferences, here’s a refresher: the Nintendo 3DS eShop has officially launched. This is certainly an exciting feature for the 3DS. Let’s hope Nintendo treats it with more care than the Wii Virtual Console and WiiWare services, which started off hot and ended up largely ignored.

The eShop’s launch had been delayed several weeks due to Nintendo working out some kinks in the system. In my opinion, they probably should have waited another week or so. The first day of E3 is never a good day to launch anything. Maybe they wanted to do it in time for their big press conference tomorrow.

If you own a 3DS, be sure to check out the freshly launched eShop. And don’t forget to snag your free copy of Excitebike 3D Classic as well as the new 3D Pokedex app. It’s going to be interesting seeing what else Nintendo has in store for the 3DS during their keynote tomorrow.
