Investors Want Nintendo to Make iPhone Games
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has been very adamant about his stance on social and mobile gaming. In the past, he has said that he understands that there is a thriving market in these two spaces, but he clarified that Nintendo will always make products solely for its consoles and handhelds. Of course, not every one agrees with this strategy.
According to investors, the Big N should really try to branch out and release some iPhone games."Smartphones are the new battlefield for the gaming industry," Masamitsu Ohki, a manager at Stats Investment Management, told Bloomberg. "Nintendo should try to either buy its way into this platform or develop something totally new."
Recently, Nintendo shares saw a jump as a result of a Pokemon app for iOS and Android devices. Obviously, this jump was generated by interest from investors and the potential of such Nintendo-licensed content hitting mobile phones. Unfortunately for the company, shares dropped once more after the Big N stated that it wasn't changing its strategy.
Analysts have already made it clear that they think Nintendo should develop social games. Now investors want the company to make mobile games. Will we ever see Nintendo venture into either of these spaces? It's hard to say, especially after Iwata-san's recent statements. That said, the company could probably thrive and make a handsome sum if it did choose to start making iPhone games.
