How music became the voice of Unravel

Music aids the storytelling of Unravel

You won't hear any spoken words in EA's upcoming game Unravel, reveals Coldwood Creative Director Martin Sahlin. So to help tell the story of the adorable Yarny, music becomes the voice of the game.

As one of the most important storytelling tools, EA has shared new details about Unravel's unique approach to music.

"It sets the tone and inspires you to think and feel. We leaned heavily on the soundtrack, and needed it to be able to carry the weight of some pretty big tasks," Sahlin said. "It needed to be capable of both breaking and mending your heart, all without spoken words."

As previously touched upon, the story of Unravel and Yarny deals with themes like love and longing and mending broken bonds. The music will reflect that, both breaking your heart and putting it back together again.

"The music changes dynamically to match the gameplay, really helping to tell the story of the world and to enhance the atmosphere. It’s deeply integrated with the gameplay, and we’re excited for you to experience it," Sahlin concluded.

Unravel is set to release on February 9, 2016.
