Halo 4 release date to be announced in ‘not-too-crazy-distant future’

Halo 4 is expected to release in 2012, although the actual shipping date has not yet been announced.  In the most recent Halo bulletin, franchise manager Frank O'Connor promised the official release date will be rolled out "in the not-too-crazy future."  E3 perhaps?

343 Industries, on Monday, released their first Halo 4 trailer giving fans their first look at some in-game action as well as some behind-the-scenes clips from the developers.  The video sparked some debate amongst Halo fans concerned over the mention of "perks".

If you were hoping to get your hands on some Halo 4 multiplayer beta, then you may be disappointed.  O'Connor also announced there is no multiplayer beta planned for Halo 4.

Rather than splitting resources, O'Connor suggested the company would rather focus on "polishing and shipping" Halo 4.

"While we are testing Halo 4 code, gameplay, and systems at significant scale to get excellent data, input, and feedback, we are focused on polishing and shipping our experience for the duration of the year," he said in the latest bulletin. "Splitting resources to manage and build a beta is not on our schedule."

Halo 3 and Halo: Reach both had multiplayer betas allowing fans to play the game before release.  With this being 343's first Halo game, some see this as an important step in the release process.
