GT Academy 2011 Begins Today

The first leg of Sony's GT Academy begins today, and getting close to the prestigious Dubai 24 Hour International race is now one step easier. Wannabe racers must hit the GT Academy 2011 special event in Gran Turismo 5 and storm the leaderboards until April 17, where the top 20 from each European territory group move onto a national final, along with four possible wild card entrants.

Eligible countries include UK and Ireland, France and Switzerland, Germany and Austria, Spain and Portugal, Holland, and Italy.

Successful gamers who pass the opening stage will then advance to the Silverstone circuit for the GT Academy Race Camp, a comprehensive training school for racing drivers. Then participants will have the opportunity to obtain a racing license, and should the victor earn it, he will sit behind the wheel of a Nissan 370Z GT4 at the Dubai 24 Hour International race.

Not a bad deal for sitting, learning, and hammering a track in a video game.
