Gears of War 3 Beta a Success, Pre-Orders Huge

The stats speak for themselves:

- Over 1.29 Million players participated in the Gears of War 3 beta - 145 different countries participated in the beta - 249 years worth of matches played - More than 11 million matches completed - More than 927 million kills recorded - More than 131 million executions performed - More than 23 million deaths by chainsaw - Nearly 23 BILLION bullets fired - 4.9 billion ribbons and 291M medals earned - 435K people earned the Beta exclusive Thrashball Cole skin to use in the retail game when it launches in September - 234K people earned the Beta exclusive Gold Retro Lancer to use in the retail game when it launches in September

The end result? Hopefully a really good idea of what works and what needs to be fixed in Gears of War 3's multiplayer mode. What's more tangible is the over one million pre-orders the game has received.

Sure, many of those pre-orders are a direct result of the beta and might not translate into sales, but the number is impressive regardless. Gears might not be competing with Call of Duty, but it's certainly forging its own niche fanbase. Those looking for a unique way to launch their next multiplayer game may want to take note.

Having played a fair amount of the Gears 3 beta, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. If there's one thing I hope they fix between now and release, it's the troublesome spawning. Did you play the beta? If so, what do you think Epic needs to fix?
