Gaming industry turns to Black Ops 2, Wii U for 'much needed boost' in sales

The gaming industry is in dire need of help. Following another month (October 2012) in which we saw a "steep decline in retail sales", many analysts in the gaming industry are looking forward to November 2012 for a "much needed boost" in sales.

November has always been a big year in the gaming industry. As the start of the Holiday season, many publishers wait until now to release their big blockbuster titles. This year we have Assassin's Creed 3 which will be counted toward November's earnings, Halo 4, and the highly-anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on November 13th. We also have the arrival of Nintendo's Wii U, the first system in the "next-gen" console era.

"These software titles, along with the Wii U launch on November 18, will provide a much needed boost to retail sales," predicted NPD industry analyst Liam Callahan. Callahan also pointed out that the Xbox 360, PS3, and 3DS all saw higher sales sales per week in October versus September, a "sign of increasing momentum" as we move into the Holiday season. Industry analysts are obviously hoping this trend continues.

This November may not be as big as last year's in terms of blockbuster title releases, but Black Ops 2 could carry us to a surprisingly big November, at a crucial time. In fact, Activision has already said Black Ops 2 has the potential to be "the biggest selling game of all time."
