Games we wish were real: The Legend of Groose

If you've played more than five minutes of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, then you've met Groose, Link's stocky red-haired rival, one of the worst bullies the Knight's Academy has ever seen. Thing is, we've got a bit of a soft spot in our hearts for old Groose. After all, there's maybe two or three girls in the Skyloft village, and it's clear they're all got their eyes set on Link. Worst of all, Groose clearly carries a candle for Zelda, yet she won't even give him the time of day! Jeez!

Point is, we think Groose has been unfairly characterized as a jerk, when deep down he's just a misunderstood young man trying to get his game on. A player's gotta play, right? Anyhow, that's why we were so enamored with DeviantArt user 'Shattered-Earth" and their depiction of the Skyward Sword spin-off we dream of someday playing: The Legend of Groose.

Something tells me it's time for another Operation: Rainfall-esque letter writing campaign. Nintendo needs to know that we're sick of Mario, Zelda, Metroid and all those tired old franchises. It's time for a new hero, and his name is Groose!
