First look at actual Star Wars Battlefront gameplay coming at E3

DICE design director's open letter to Star Wars Battlefront fans

Star Wars fans eager for their first look at real gameplay from DICE's upcoming Star Wars Battlefront will likely have to tune in to Electronic Arts' E3 press conference on June 15. While many of you probably already expected this, it was confirmed in a new post today from design director Niklas Fegraeus.

"So tune in starting June 15, because at E3 this year, Star Wars Battlefront gameplay will make its debut and we’re all super excited to show it to you," he wrote in an open letter to Star Wars fans that was actually focused on much more than the gameplay reveal date.

In the post, Fegraeus thanks fans for support, talks a bit about the team developing Battlefront and their passion for Star Wars, and even addresses DICE's design philosophy for the game.

"What we want to make sure is that each Star Wars fan can have something really awesome to look forward to, be that epic online battles or an instant skirmish alone or with a friend," he said, while touching on a few specific details about the game's design — like, the different game modes and maps.

"You could see a tiny snippet of this in our trailer where you saw the Fighter Squadron mode, where you engage in huge Starfighter battles over canyons big enough to be truly epic. Then, for those not in the mood for large scale battles, we have created Missions where players can, for example, take on armies of AI or test their piloting skills. All our Missions can be played either alone or cooperatively, making them perfect for some quick Star Wars action when you have a friend over."

Fegraeus went on to explain why DICE has chosen to reboot the Star Wars Battlefront franchise instead of making a sequel. "The reason is quite simple: we want to pay homage to this beloved franchise, while making our own stamp for a new generation," he said.

For fans looking forward to Star Wars Battlefront, I suggest checking out the post because it's filled with a ton of cool information.

Now, I know some of you may be thinking 'Hey, I already saw the gameplay during last month's reveal.' While that video was comprised of game engine footage captured on PlayStation 4, it wasn't necessarily reflective of how the game actually plays. To have seen that, you must have been at Star Wars Celebration where 3,000 fans were able to get an exclusive look at gameplay behind closed doors.

Star Wars Battlefront is due out on November 17 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
