Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn down for maintenance tonight at 8pm EDT; increasing Worlds and concurrent logins

Since its launch on August 27, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has been plagued with numerous errors and login issues. Players have not been able to get in and play in the land of Eorzea due to numerous things: login and character creation restrictions, "World is Full" messages, lack of a meaningful queue and server capacity being pushed to its limits. Tonight's patch will hopefully resolve that.

Maintenance will start tonight at 5:00pm PDT/8:00pm EDT and is expected to last until September 4 at 3:00am PDT/6:00am PDT. The purpose of the maintenance will be to increase the number of available Worlds, reduce stress on the Duty Finder servers, and increase the number of concurrent logins allowed for each server.

How much this helps will be see tomorrow, but a free character transfer could go a long way...

Since people really haven't been able to play with any sort of regularity if they logged out (the game is currently plagued with AFK players that refuse to log out because they are afraid they won't get back in), Square Enix is giving all Final Fantasy XIV service accounts an additional seven days of free play time, added on once maintenance has concluded.
