FIFA 12, Modern Warfare 3 dominate Christmas sales

In 2010, FIFA 11 surprised everyone when it became the best selling Christmas game - beating out Call of Duty: Black Ops.  Fast forward to Christmas 2011, and we were in the same situation.  Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was dominating in the UK sales charts, only to be topped by FIFA 12

For the second year in a row, a FIFA game has claimed the number one Christmas spot in the UK video game sales charts.  For the week ending December 24th, FIFA 12 was number one, followed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and Just Dance 3.  The final standings include:

  1. FIFA 12
  2. Modern Warfare 3
  3. Battlefield 3
  4. Just Dance 3
  5. Assassin's Creed: Revelations
  6. Saints Row: The Third
  7. Need for Speed: The Run
  8. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  9. Mario Kart 7
  10. Forza Motorsport 4

The final week of 2011 marked the fourth one in which FIFA 12 occupied the top spot, despite great holiday sales for MW3, Battlefield 3, Just Dance 3, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, and many more games that released during what many consider to be the largest November release lineup ever.  EA/BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic, which made the top ten during its release week, fell quickly dropping out of the top 10 for the week of December 31st. Here are the UK sales charts for the final week of 2011, according to retail sales monitor GFK Chart Track.

  1. FIFA 12
  2. Modern Warfare 3
  3. Battlefield 3
  4. Just Dance 3
  5. Assassin's Creed: Revelations
  6. Saints Row: The Third
  7. Need for Speed: The Run
  8. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  9. Mario Kart 7
  10. Forza Motorsport 4
