Fast and Furious spin-off starring The Rock and Jason Statham being considered

This series is never going away.

The eighth Fast and Furious opened to a massive box office opening a couple weeks ago proving the series still resonates with audiences. The movie has made over $900 million worldwide and will more than likely cross $1 billion before its theatrical run ends.

Although the series only has two more films planned, a spin-off series is being considered at Universal. When Fast Five hit theaters in 2011, fans quickly fell in love with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's character, Hobbs. He has stolen the show in pretty much every movie since then and The Rock is one of Hollywood's biggest stars at the moment. Universal is considering a spin-off starring him and Jason Statham who made his first appearance in Furious 7.

A scene was filmed for Fate of the Furious to set-up the spin-off but Vin Diesel quickly became furious about the idea once he found out. His anger spawned a feud between him and The Rock on set and the press tour for the film. Supposedly this hasn't squashed the possibility for the film.

No script has been written yet but the movie would reportedly center around Hobbs and Statham's Deckard Shaw going after Charlize Theron's character, Cipher. It's unclear when Universal wants to begin production on the film as it's still in the early stages of development.
