Facebook names top game of 2013: Criminal Case

Facebook revealed some year-end data today about its achievements in games, including the top title of 2013.

"The games of the year were selected based on user ratings, Facebook implementation, growth, and overall quality," posted AJ Glasser of Facebook's developer relations division. "We’ve also introduced a Staff Favorites category to share some of the games most played around our offices, and a Hall of Fame category for the games that launched earlier than 2013, but continue to be immensely popular with Facebook gamers."

The top title was hidden-object game Criminal Case from developer Pretty Simple.

"As detailed in our case study of the game, Open Graph stories featuring visceral artwork drove organic growth for the game throughout the first half of the year," wrote Glasser. "Content updates and additional cases drove more growth for the game in the second half of the year."

Other best new titles of the year included Bake Shop Drop, Farm Heroes Saga, and Heart of Vegas, among others.

From a total of 23 new games, 10 came from European or Middle Eastern developers, eight are cross-platform titles, and eight are from indie studios. Five are also casino/slots games.
