EA Says Call of Duty Will Finally Get Some Competition
EA has made it a point to take on the Call of Duty franchise over the past several months. The company has directed both minor criticism and major verbal assaults on Activision's long-running military FPS. And with both games' launch dates still a fair amount of time away, you can bet this is going to continue.
Recently, EA's Frank Gibeau was responsible for flinging the proverbial poop at the Call of Duty series. In an interview with CVG, he stated that EA was intending on giving Activision hell. He even went so far as to say that Battlefield 3 has been designed to take over the military shooter space, because when EA wants something, it gets it! Well, at least according to Gibeau.
"We don't take things lightly," said the EA executive. "If we're going to go after a category, we intend to lead. We have a very big competitor there, but they're going to get some competition this Christmas for the first time in a long time."
Gibeau went on to say, "We're going to take share from them and I think we're going to grow the business significantly. We're going to give them competition for the first time that they haven't had. Customers like competition--they like these kind of heavyweight fights, so we're going for it."
All I have to say is, them's fightin' words!
