E3 survey shows equal interest in Wii U, Xbox One, lost ground by PS4

Despite a sizeable gap in units moved, Xbox One and Wii U are neck-and-neck in terms of consumer interest, a new survey from IHS says.

The survey consists of feedback taken from roughly 1,000 gamers at E3 2014, who were asked which new-gen systems they plan on purchasing. Pre-show interest was heavily in favor of PS4, at 32 percent, with Xbox One and Wii U at 18 and 14 percent respectively. However, as GamesIndustry reports, Sony’s hold loosened: post-show interest left Xbox One at 20 percent and Wii U just a fraction higher.

2015’s heavy-hitting multiplatform releases dominate the most-wanted games list, with Batman Arkham Knight, Destiny, Assassin’s Creed Unity, and the rerelease of Grand Theft Auto 5 topping the list. On the exclusive side of things, Uncharted 4 is spearheading PS4 while Xbox gamers are clamoring for Halo.

The firm notes that Mario Kart 8 is the only comparable title in the contest of system selling, suggesting the holiday wars will instead be won by platform-exclusive bonuses in third-party games and “the total value of the content proposition.”
