E3 2016: More official details on Sony Bend's new title, Days Gone

Story, minor-lore, and protagonist revealed

Last night, Sony Bend unveiled the game that they have been working on some time, Days Gone. During the conference, we received two trailers, one cinematic and one gameplay, both of which looked amazing.

However, from the two videos, not much detail was given about the newly announced title. Thankfully the PlayStation Blog didn’t wait too long to give more details on the new title. From the blog post, we learned plenty of new details including our protagonist name, setting of where the game takes place and how the zombies came to be.

Let's start off with our main hero whose name is Deacon St., John. In the trailer, we learned that he was a mercenary and that remains true as he rather risks the dangers of going out in the wild then to live in the "safe" encampments.

This is a brutal world, where everyone and everything are struggling to survive – but hopefully, the trailer shows that the game is about more than that. It’s about desperation, hope, transformation, loss, madness, discovery, friendship, exploration, brotherhood, regret, and love. In the end, Days Gone is what makes us human. It’s about how even when confronted with such enormous tragedy, we find a reason to live. Hope never dies.

Days Gone will take place in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, giving players plenty of open roads to explore. This is also a good time to mention that the game will be fully open-world giving players the opportunity to seek out new things to do, quests, and whatnot.

The zombie looking, creatures, aren't technically zombies as they are more animal-like, mindless feral creatures that aim to take out anything living; the living calls them Freakers. There are two types of these creatures -- Newts and Hordes. Newts are adolescents when infected from the global pandemic that killed most of the earth's population two years ago. They are hunters, hide in the shadows, and plan to attack when you least expect it; you actually get to see one in the gameplay trailer above.

The other type is the horde. We also get to see this type of Freaker in the gameplay trailer. They attack in large numbers and try to swarm you making it hard to escape. They are unpredictable, some could scour the roads while others hold up in resourceful locations, but with Deacons set of skills he learned as an outlaw biker has a slight edge on his competition both with the freakers and other survivors.

Days Gone is set to release exclusively on the PS4.
