DICE Aims For "Full Year of Play To Unlock Everything" In Battlefield 3
Battlefield 3 is being compared nonstop to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but unlike it's biggest rival, DICE has no plan on releasing a new Battlefield game every year. DICE, is instead, in it for the long haul, with awards, unlocks, and tons of DLC. According to DICE, it will take 100 hours to unlock every weapon and attachment per kit, but DICE has more planned about the longevity of Battlefield 3.
In a recent interview, DICE's Patrick Bach has stated that they are aiming for a full year of play if players want to unlock everything. Bach said:
“You don’t have to play through the whole game to unlock a new thing – you’ll actually unlock things for each specific weapon and kit. On the other hand if you want to explore the full unlock tree, there’s plenty of things for you to do – we’re aiming for a full year of play for those who really want to unlock everything.”
Now, "year of play" differs from player to player. Some players will spend an hour, while others will spend five plus hours of gameplay per day. I assume they are going by the average gamer. Either way, expect a lot from Battlefield 3. If the popularity Bad Company 2, 6 years after release, is any preview of the longevity of a DICE game, expect Battlefield 3 to keep you busy with all of the awards, DLC, stat tracking, and intense gameplay for quite a while. And with multiplayer action like the kind in the video below, I don't see why Battlefield 3 can't keep your attention for "a full year".
