DeathSpank, Shank, The Ball Arrive On Steam
Got a craving for bacon, gangland violence or ancient ruins? Steam has got you covered with a trio of games for under $20 that couldn't be any more different.
Those wanting to dispense some justice, rescue some orphans, or beat the poop out of some demons (literally) can now download DeathSpank for $14.99. Developed under the direction of Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert, DeathSpank is an action role-playing game that has its titular hero embark on a quest for an artifact known simply as "The Artifact." The game features Diablo-esque gameplay and a sense of humor that will make you giggle as it spoofs the genre it's based on.
Also available for $14.99 today is Shank, a side-scrolling action game with a pulp fiction art style and a hankering for bloody vengeance. Unlike DeathSpank, Shank is decidedly darker in tone, as players will take down waves of enemies in their path in their mission to help Shank get his revenge on those who betrayed him.
However, if blood and bacon aren't your thing, Tripwire Interactive and Teotl Studios' The Ball can now be bought on Steam as well for $19.99. A first person action-adventure game built on Epic's Unreal Engine 3, The Ball lets you get in touch with your inner Indiana Jones or Lara Croft as a swashbuckling archaeologist who stumbles upon some ancient ruins in Mexico and discovers a mysterious gold and metal shelled ball. Players must use the ball to solve puzzles, overcome traps and defend themselves from strange creatures as they work to reveal some of mankind's greatest secrets.
