Curt Shilling talks about gaming and Kingdom of Amalur on Conan

The interview with Curt Shilling on the Conan O’Brian show last night was absolutely hilarious.  I may have been accused of giggling while rewatching it this morning in the office.  It was at this point that I decided I had to make a post about it.  Curt Shilling was a starting pitcher for three teams and won four World Series during his baseball career.  Now he makes video games as 38 Studios’ founder – what an awesome career resume.

Conan flat out asks Shilling if he thinks he has spent more time playing baseball or video games.  He says it is a tossup and is about even.  Shilling says that he has had the perfect gaming life; he only really worked once every five days.  He also says gaming is what kept his relationship with his wife strong.  It would keep him around her more and not get him in trouble while he was on the road.  Conan berates him for such an outrageous comment.

While visiting Iraq to spend time with the US troops, Shilling had an interesting story about an experience there.  Apparently after some of the soldiers got off of patrol, they went to the forward operation base and played Call of Duty over Xbox LIVE.  If you don’t think they trash talked while ‘waxing’ fifteen year old kids, you are absolutely wrong.

After Curt retired from baseball in 2009 he said that going into the video game industry was the next natural thing to do.  With such zeal, passion, and the money to start a gaming company - why not?  The combination of 38 Studios and EA gave birth to Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning.  This fantasy action RPG has come out for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

As a promotion for Amalur, Shilling had both Conan and himself put into the game.  This rather comedic sequence has Conan’s character talking a lot of shit and then Shilling’s character beats the piss out of him.  I personally found the fact that Conan’s character was a tiny, Scottish speaking, man with his identical hair to be hilarious.

Just check out this video, you will not be disappointed.
