Confirmed: Sony's PS Vita Is 'Region Free'
Gamers outside of Japan can officially get the much-anticipated PlayStation Vita in time for Christmas.
Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, confirmed yesterday that Sony's PlayStation Vita will be region-free. There has been speculation that the PS Vita would be region-free, but when a fan finally asked for confirmation via Twitter, Yoshida replied, "Yes, it is."
Ah, the power of a simple tweet. Those with the cash to pay for premium importing, can now get their hands on the Vita when it first launches in Japan on December 17.
The PlayStation Vita still doesn't have confirmed launch dates outside of Japan, so as of right now, importing is the only option gamers (or their parents) have if they want experience the power of the Vita in time before Christmas. Or maybe after Christmas, depending on shipping. Either way, it's going to be a lot sooner than those who wait for it to launch in their country sometime in the first quarter of 2012.
