Catwoman Costume Finally Revealed!

The first official image of Anne Hathaway dressed as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises has been released. It's interesting to say the least.

The first thing to notice is the lack of cat-like features about it, and that's probably why I like it. There is no tacky, tight leather outfit with strategically placed rips or the cliche cat ears to let everyone that she is indeed Catwoman. I'm glad Christopher Nolan didn't fall into the cheesy Catwoman pit that many directors seem to do. This costume doesn't scream "Hey, I'm the Catwoman! You can tell because I have feline qualities in my costume!"

Instead, this Catwoman dons a skintight black jumpsuit, her hair pulled back into a ponytail, and those god-awful 3D looking glasses she is sporting. They must really be hurting in the 3D television and film industry. Product placement maybe? Are the goggles Christopher Nolan's way to replace the half-mask with a more 2011 look and feel?

Then again, this could very well be a misleading photo labeled as "Catwoman". What if this is the Selina Kyle before she puts on those ridiculous cat ears and claws?

Aside from costume questions, why is Catomwan riding on the Batpod? Does she join forces with the Bat or did she hijack it from him? Ah, let the speculating being...

Perhaps the biggest question remains is if the Oscar-nominated Anne Hathaway can pull off the role of Catwoman in a way that so many others have failed to do? Can she successfully follow-up Heath Ledger's Joker as Batman's nemesis? He really brought that character to a whole new level and I can only hope that Hathaway will do the same with Catwoman. I personally think she will rise to the challenge and really show a side of her we never knew existed, much like Ledger did. I'm interested to see her approach towards the character. Of course, anything is better than Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry, so in that sense it's comforting to know that even if she butchers the role it still won't be as bad as that.

What are your thoughts on the Catwoman costume? Do you think Hathaway will play a good Catwoman?
