Borderlands, Civilization multiplayer will live on after GameSpy’s server shutdown

One of the biggest tragedies from the news that GameSpy's multiplayer servers would be shutting down was the loss of some beloved online gaming. While several publishers have found ways to keep players happy, there were still many games with futures up in the air.

Today, 2K Games has detailed their plans moving forward. In essence, they're saving Borderlands and Civilization while discontinuing online service for several "legacy titles."

Here's the full list of games being saved, per 2K's support website:

  • Borderlands
  • Civlization III
  • Civilization III: Conquests
  • Civilization III: Play the World
  • Civilization IV
  • Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword
  • Civilization IV: Colonization
  • Civilization IV: Warlords

And here's the list of games that will lose online service as of May 31st:

  • Close Combat First to Flight
  • Jetfigher
  • Jetfighter V: Homeland Protector
  • Leadfoot
  • Rune
  • Stronghold 2
  • Stronghold Legends
  • Top Spin
  • Top Spin 2
  • Vietcong
  • Vietcong Demo
  • Vietcong First Alpha
  • Vietcong 2
  • Vietcong 2 Demo
  • MLB Fantasy All-Stars
  • Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution
  • Major League BASeball 2K9 Fantasy All-Stars
  • NHL 2K10
  • NBA 2K10

Finally, just a friendly reminder that games such as Borderlands 2 and Civilization V are unaffected since they're not using GameSpy servers.
