Black Wii Holiday Bundle Announced

Nintendo has confirmed that a new Wii holiday bundle will be available at retailers. Beginning October 23, the revised Wii will be on store shelves. But that's not all, because the console will come in a snazzy black finish and will include some extra stuff, too.

Bundled with the Wii console revision will be a copy of New Super Mario Bros. Wii and the soundtrack CD for Super Mario Galaxy. All of this for $149.99. Not a bad deal when you think about it, but I've got a couple of problems with it.

For starters, this is the new Wii overhaul. You know, the one that's the same size and shape as the regular Wii and just sits horizontally. That's all fine and dandy, but this version of the Wii offers no GameCube support whatsoever. I'm talking games and peripherals. That means if you want to play Super Smash Bros. Brawl, you won't be able to use the optimal GameCube controller. Weak.

If you intend on getting a Wii this late into the console's life, I'd suggest sticking with the original version. Unless you have no intention of playing GameCube games ... or Super Smash Bros. Brawl. If that's the case, then I suppose it's a decent value.
