Bethesda Squashes Kotaku's Doom 4 Postponement Rumor

If you thought rumors stopped in high school you were dead wrong.  In the most recent case, Kotaku relayed a story from a source "claiming" to be close to the publisher, and suggesting that Doom 4's development had been postponed due to RAGE's rough release.  Ah, gotta love those hard facts coming from unnamed sources.

Well, it appears Bethesda is sick of it, and their VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines has put an end to it.  Pete Hines has put his foot down, effectively squashing all rumors of a Doom 4 postponement.  In a recent Tweet Hines sternly clarified, "Re: DOOM 4 rumor, games are done when they are done and no title under development at id has been postponed --indefinitely or otherwise." In response to questions asking if the rumor were true, Hines referred to the speculation as "complete bollocks." (God, I love the Brits!)  It's refreshing to see Bethesda, or any publisher/developer, stand up and finally put an end to rumors and speculation.

Honestly, this is the type of stuff that destroys credibility.  When you rely on a "unnamed source" it stops becoming news and becomes a rumor or gossip even.  If rumors like this continue to plague gaming journalism what is to stop people from just citing an "unnamed source claiming to be affiliated with ___" as news?

THIS JUST IN!! AN UNNAMED SOURCE WHO IDENTIFIES HIMSELF CLOSE WITH MICROSOFT SAYS THE XBOX 720 IS COMING THIS CHRISTMAS!  Do you hear how dumb that sounds?
