Battlefield 3: Close Quarters DLC to release in June, two more add-ons planned

Beginning in June, Battlefield 3 will receive the first of three planned DLC add-ons.  Similar to the Back to Karkand DLC, these add-ons will offer new weapons, multiplayer maps, and vehicles.

The first add-on pack, titled Close Quarters, will arrive in June and is focused on just what the title suggests: up-close, indoor infantry combat with verticality to the map designs.  Close Quarters will be released one week early on the PS3, and includes 10 new weapons and four new maps all themed around close quarter combat.

"Battlefield 3: Close Quarters is a themed expansion pack bringing the team play of Battlefield 3 to tight indoor environments.  The frantic close quarters infantry combat is amplified by unprecedented high definition destruction, new ways to play, more weapons and added persistence," the description for the DLC reads on the official website.

The HD Destruction in Close Quarters lets players riddle the environment with bullets, reducing entire locales to ruin. Everything from furniture to plaster can be shot to pieces, and players can see the result of the mayhem as rubble and broken pieces pile up on the floor.

The tight level design and many opportunities for vertical gameplay mean players will need to bring their A game if they want to stay alive in this highly competitive theater of war.

According to Eurogamer, the map shown off at EA's GDC event was the "interior of a swish-looking office block called Ziba Tower, with lots of glass to shatter."  It was described during the event as "hectic and intense".

Key features in Close Quarters include:

  • Get plunged into frantic and relentless infantry combat
  • Check your corners as death can come from any angle
  • HD destruction lets you reduce entire locales to ruin
  • Earn new weapons and bring them back to the base game
  • Complete new assignments and equip unique dog tags
  • Play in new ways, mixing team play and instant action

Following the first add-on, will be Armored Kill - DLC feautring all-out vehicle warfare with new tanks, ATV's, and mobile artillery.  This will contain the largest map ever seen in a Battlefield game with one new drivable vehicle.  This has no release yet.

The last DLC will be called End Game will arrive during winter.  Nothing, except the name was detailed, and DICE is apparently keeping it a "closely guarded secret".
