August NPD Numbers Released

With few titles worth mentioning - aside from Dues Ex: Human Revolution - analysts expected August's sales numbers to look a lot like July's: dismal. Today the NPD group has confirmed those predictions, releasing their monthly numbers.

Top 10 Games for the Month of August:

1) Deus Ex: Human Revolution (360, PS3, PC) 2) NCAA Football 12 (360, PS3) 3) Call of Duty: Black Ops (360, PS3, DS, Wii, PC) 4) Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd (DS, Wii, PS3) 5) Cars 2 (NDS, Wii, 360, PS3, PC) 6) Just Dance Summer Party (Wii) 7) Just Dance 2 (Wii) 8) Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game (Wii, 360, DS, PS3, 3DS, PSP, PC) 9) The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS) 10) Zumba Fitness: Join the Party (Wii, 360, PS3)

On the hardware side, the Xbox 360 continued its dominance, moving 308,000 sales. Nintendo moved 235,000 3DS units, roughly 185,000 of which sold after the drastic price cut. The Wii continued with its latest struggles, selling only 190,000 units. The 3DS' older brother, the DS, also struggled - most likely due to the price drop of the 3DS - selling only 165,000 units. Sony's numbers were left out of the report, though the company did comment saying that their $50 price cut resulted in the PS3's sales moving on the upswing.

Even with these horrific numbers, analyst are confident with the rest of the year. July and August are normally the "dead spots" of the year with NCAA Football and Madden carrying most of the weight. With a monsoon of hit games lingering ever so closely, it is expected for huge numbers to start pouring in with each and every NPD report.
