Anaheim Angels Troy Glaus 989 Sports – MLB 2005 Interview

Anaheim Angels Troy
Glaus 989 Sports – MLB 2005
 Interview

Jan 12, 2003 – Sony sent
over an interview with
Troy Glaus conducted
in their motion capture studios for MLB 2005.

How
did it feel to win the Fall Classic in just your fifth year in the big’s?  And
the WS MVP to boot?

Anytime you can
win it’s a good feeling – it was a great honor just to be a part of the whole
experience and to get to the WS — to actually go thru and win – it was
surreal.  It was great to play for the trophy and to win the pennant –
everything else is gravy, just an unbelievable feeling.

What is your
favorite baseball moment?

The last out of 2002 – I can
remember it like it was yesterday – I can’t remember much else about the whole
game, but I remember the last out like it was in slow motion.  It was sort of an
out-of-body experience – ya know, just standing there, watching yourself.

Who were your
heroes growing up?

Cal Ripken JR. and Mark Maguire.

I’ve met them both and it was so
great to sit and take it all in – everything they had to say – I soaked it up
like a sponge.   I was nervous to meet them – like I was and 8-yr old kid.  I
mean come-on, I’ve watched these guys since I was a little kid so to meet them
was a dream come true.

What’s your
favorite sport other than baseball?

Golf! I play as much as I can.

What’s your
golf handicap?

4

Did you
know you were the record books for homering in four straight at bats?  Think
it’ll ever be eclipsed?
No, I didn’t know that.
Homering five times in five straight at bats would be unimaginable, but then
again all records or stats are meant to be broken.

What do you do
during the off-season?

Training, rehabbing the shoulder,
relaxing, playing PlayStation 2 – just trying to get in best shape possible for
the upcoming season.

If you weren’t
playing baseball, what would you be doing instead?

I’d be a teacher – of what, I have know idea – but
teaching in some capacity.  I love working with kids and charities.

Who’s the
biggest prankster on the team?

Pitcher, Troy
Percival – he gets on everyone.  Nothing slides by him and remembers everything
– and at some point he’s going to get on you.  He has an unbelievable memory and
he’ll use it to will embarrass you.

Do you compete
with your teammates on PlayStation 2?  What do you play?

MLB 2004, NFL
GameDay 2004 & NBA ShootOut 2004 are all great sports games, they are so
realistic.  I am also a “gear head” I love racing games – the Grand Turismo
series and ATV Off Road Fury are awesome.

I like all of 989 Sports’ games – we have a
PlayStation 2 on the road, in the clubhouse, just about everywhere.  Playing MLB
keeps your head in the game, keeps you fresh and it’s fun to play – we’re all
competitive people.

What’s are your
favorite 989 Sports games?

NFL GameDay 2004 and  MLB 2004.

Who is the
biggest Gamer on the team?

Pitcher, Jarrod Washburn.  He
always brings the Play Station 2 games with him.  He’s big into NFL GameDay and
NCAA GameBreaker as he’s a Midwest guy.

What’s in your
CD player right now?

Red Hot Chili Peppers, a little bit
of country to mellow out (Keith Urban, Toby Keith), some

Steve Miller Band
to just flow and some Metallica to get up for games.

What’s it feel
like to go through the motion capture process?

Absolutely,
amazing.  I don’t typical wear tight suits… but to see the motion capture work
and to see it on camera is unreal.  The technology is beyond belief and has come
so far… I remember playing Pit Fall on when I was young and now looking at MLB
2005, it’s scary how realistic the faces, movements and gestures of the players
are.  When I play, it looks exactly how they do on the real field.

What was it
like to see your swing?

Extremely cool – but it shows me I need to make a
couple of adjustments in my swing.  It so realistic – it doesn’t look digitized,
the reality is simply amazing.
