Alan Wake sales hit 2 million, dubbed a ‘cult classic’

Alan Wake has sold over 2 million copies. Flashback several years ago when Remedy Entertainment officially left Max Payne to work on Microsoft’s unknown exclusive, and likely anyone and everyone would have called you crazy if you ever mentioned Alan Wake hitting anywhere near that mark, but nevertheless, Remedy has, well, won, with their “cult classic."

"We've moved over two million copies–that's including PC," Oskari Häkkinen, Remedy's head of franchise development, told CVG. "So after a slow start it's turning into something really positive. It's definitely had legs. I think narrative experiences just have a tendency for that."

"Alan Wake's like a cult classic if you like… People who have played and enjoyed the story feel the urge to tell their friends and other gamers out there that they need to try this experience, they need to play it."

After Alan Wake returned to the Xbox 360 in the form of the downloadable title Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, and the original’s games debut on PC this past February, little has been said about the future of the franchise, but Häkkinen notes that there’s belief in what Alan Wake can do.

"Alan Wake is definitely very close to our hearts. It's our IP–we own it. It's not something that we're going to forget very easily."

And if that’s not enough to speculate the presence of another Alan Wake, this past December Remedy Creative Director Sam Lake tweeted that the team is up to something, and that it’ll be announced in 2013:
