BELLEVUE, WA (June 6, 2000) -- Sierra Sports(tm), a division of Sierra On-Line, today announced that its highly anticipated PGA Championship Golf (tm) 2000 golf simulation game has shipped and is available on store shelves just in time for Father's Day. Developed by Headgate Studios, PGA Championship Golf 2000 provides golfers and non-golfers alike with a true golfing experience on the PC by recreating the sport, from the feel of hitting the ball to the emotion of missing a short putt to win the tournament.
"PGA Championship Golf 2000 gives fans the best golf experience by bringing the intensity and emotion of a PGA championship round or the relaxing fun of a leisurely round to the PC," said Justin Kubiak, brand manager for Sierra Sports.
With PGA Championship Golf 2000, fans of the sport can catch a glimpse of life as a PGA professional player. PGA Championship Golf 2000 is the first golf simulation to offer both complete and comprehensive Season and Career modes that recreate tour-style experiences. Tee-off in a championship round with a pro or in a leisurely foursome with friends, or compete for bragging rights in a father verses son competition over the Internet TrueSwing(tm) 3, the game's landmark "smart" swing feature, has been enhanced to more accurately recreate the golf swing.
Players can replicate their favorite home course with exacting detail or design endless fantasy courses with the PGA Championship Golf 2000's Course Architect feature. Enhancements to the Course Architect provide a comprehensive user-interface along with new objects and 3D art for creating beautiful and realistic courses. Five new professionally-designed courses provide additional challenges for players of all skill levels.
"The single-player mode and Course Architect in PGA Championship Golf 2000 are stronger than ever and the best available in any golf simulation on the market," said Mike Jacob, senior producer for Sierra Sports. "We've added incredible tournament options and made major changes with our third-generation TrueSwing 3 feature to excite fans and challenge players of all skill levels."
Enhanced Single Player Mode with "Tour-Style" Season and Career Modes Season and Career models accurately recreate the experience of professional tour play. Players can now create extensive tours and seasons, detailed down to who makes the cut, while continuously tracking careers and earnings. Round-by-round, week-by-week and season-by-season play provides goal-oriented gameplay beyond the single round.
Adding to the drama of tournament play, PGA Championship Golf 2000's new SnapCam(tm) feature mimics television-style camera movement after the shot the ball's landing location to provide the ultimate perspective on the game. Roaring crowds from nearby greens adds pressure when lining up the perfect putt. Broadcast-style play-by-play commentary by The Golf Channel's Mark Lye and Grant Boone adds realism and excitement to tournaments. New commentary, such as yardage call outs, makes each round distinct.
Improved TrueSwing 3 "Smart" Swing Mechanism The product line's signature TrueSwing 3 "smart" swing feature has been enhanced to provide realistic feel, control and intuitiveness unmatched in computer golf. Smooth pace and even tempo is required throughout the swing and rewarded when executed well. TrueSwing 3, a third-generation real-time technology, actually learns a player's individual swing attributes to maximize their game on the course. TrueSwing 3 brings unprecedented accuracy o each stroke, as nuances in mouse control create a perfect shot or promote a hook or slice that sends the ball bouncing through the rough.
New Online Multiplayer Features PGA Championship Golf 2000 features new options for Internet play that adds new challenge to rounds. Fathers and sons can now compete for more than just the lowest score with the addition of popular side games such as Long Drive, Nassau, Sandies, Greenies, Closest to the Pin and more. Other types of play include Skins, Match, Medal, Stableford, Ryder Cup and more. When a foursome takes to the course, PGA Championship Golf 2000's ReadyPlay(tm) technology enables golfers to progress down the fairway independent of each other for faster play. This means daughters do not have to delay their quest for birdie as Dad emerges from that treacherous bunker a few strokes behind.
Improved Graphics, Courses, Physics and Course Architect Graphical enhancements made to PGA Championship Golf 2000 have improved the game's look and feel with visible transitions between clean cut fairways and rough edges, cleaner environmental graphics, improved golfer detail and new galleries. Added golfer personalities include left-handed golfers and more choices for golf attire and shoes, hair styles and hat types. Player graphics have been enhanced with smoother animations, joint movements and body positions.
PGA Championship Golf 2000's Course Architect has new art and an extensive library of 3D objects for more course design options. Now players can create courses with concession stands, lightning huts, grandstands, announcer booths, bridges and walkways, fences and retaining walls, stone staircases, lighthouses and more.
With PGA Championship Golf 2000, there is no need to leave home to play the world's greatest golf courses. Play championship courses such as Sahalee Country Club, site of the 1998 PGA Championship; The Royal Birkdale Golf Club, site of the 1998 British Open Championship; Black Diamond Ranch; Coeur d'Alene; Pasatiempo Golf Club; Pete Dye Golf Club and Princeville Resorts. Players can also take the ultimate desert-style golf challenge on Cabo del Diablo created by Brian Copfer of Headgate Studios. Cabo del Diablo is one of five new professionally-created courses that are included in PGA Championship Golf 2000.
Improved ball physics in PGA Championship Golf 2000 include adjusted trajectories and bounce characteristics to add spin and put "bite" on shots to the greens to "back up" the ball just like the pros. A real-time rotating ball adds an extra touch of reality to the game.
Whether it's a tournament challenge, an Internet-play foursome or the creation of a golf course that bears the family name, Sierra Sports' PGA Championship Golf 2000 allows Dad to play his favorite sport every day. PGA Championship Golf 2000 retails $29.99 MSRP. Minimum system requirements include Windows(r) 2000/98/95 CD-ROM, Pentium 166 Mhz, 32 MB RAM and 4x CD-ROM drive.
