EVOLVA GENETICALLY MUTATES INTO RETAIL (Interplay’s latest tactical-shooter is now available!)
IRVINE, California, May 24, 2000 – 14° East, a division of Interplay Entertainment Corp. (NASDAQ: IPLY), is pleased to announce that their latest tactical-shooter Evolva™ is now available at retail. Arguably one of the most innovative action/strategy titles of this year, Evolva is the work of the highly respected Computer Artworks team who previously gained recognition through their groundbreaking Organic Art package in 1996. Evolva is now available for Windows® 95/98/NT based computers.
Set in the not too distant future; the player is The Evolva. The Evolva are elite troops who are the masters of the geno-hunters. They hold the key to the evolutionary processes and explore the outer reaches of the galaxy. Investigating a seismic anomaly on a faraway planet, the player controls a team of geno-hunters battling with ferocious guardian creatures as they attempt to unearth the mystery of a planet-busting parasite that is threatening mankind’s very survival.
A revolutionary yet intuitive interface gives the player complete real-time control of their team of four geno-hunters allowing them to coordinate the actions of their teammates while engaging their foe. There are ten different weapon types, each with five power-ups. However, the player can’t just pick these weapons up in Evolva. When the player kills an enemy creature, the geno-hunters can mutate into new forms taking on the abilities of the defeated foes. For instance, kill a fire breathing creature, absorb its DNA, and the player can mutate their geno-hunters into a form which can breathe fire. With over a billion genetic combinations, no two players are ever likely to evolve the same set of geno-hunters.
Internet multi-play will be a constant challenge as players evolve new teams of the ‘ultimate’ geno-hunters. Inspired by sources as diverse as Mayan art and the Barrier Reef, William Latham’s unique artistic style yields vision to a truly alien planet with bizarre creatures that, nevertheless, feels somehow familiar.
When the artistic talent of William Latham fused with the technical mastery of Mark Atkinson to create Computer Artworks and produce Organic Art, they said that they were just trying some stuff out for a game they planned to create. More than four years and over 500,000 copies of Organic Art later, their team has applied the finishing touches to Evolva; a game that pushes the boundaries of technology and imagination.
Developed by Computer Artworks Ltd. and published by 14º East, a division of Interplay Entertainment Corp., Evolva is available now for Windows® 95/98/NT. Look for other games coming soon from 14º East: Star Trek®: Klingon Academy™, Star Trek®: New Worlds™, Star Trek: Starfleet Command™ Volume II and Fallout Tactics™: Brotherhood of Steel.
