‘If Sims 4 isn’t successful, there won’t be a Sims 5,’ says Maxis producer

The Sims 4 literally just released last Tuesday and already fans are talking about features they want to see in the base game of The Sims 5. Slow your role, folks, because if The Sims 4 isn't a success, then there won't be a Sims 5 to complain about.

That's according to producer Grant Rodiek who, while fielding a slew of questions over on the Sims forums, was sidetracked by a comment about The Sims 5

"We're not working on Sims 5. We're not thinking about Sims 5," Rodiek said. "If Sims 4 isn't successful, there won't be a Sims 5."

When asked for clarification on that statement, Rodiek added, "It's not all or nothing, per se, but something has to pay for 5."

His answer is just about what you'd expect, that EA and Maxis are focused on The Sims 4; but, the tail-end of it almost seems like a warning to fans — like a, "buy our game or you won't get another." With fans already upset over a number of issues regarding The Sims 4 — including the removal of pools and toddlers — I don't think threatening them is the way to go about it, even though he may have a point. I mean, something does need to pay for a new game. The ominous tone may not have been intentional, but that's the way it read anyway. The post has since been deleted, but things on the internet never really disappear.
