The Sims 4 released today, but you wouldn't be able to tell based on the lack of reviews for the game which unlocked today at 12:01am EST. So what gives?

Turns out, EA did not provide advance review copies for the latest installment of its popular sim franchise. With many outlets just now getting their hands on the game, it'll likely take a few days for the reviews to come out.

The Sims 4 promises smarter, more relatable and emotionally aware Sims. Not only do you control the mind and body now, but the emotions of your Sims as well. And every action is now affected by who they are, what they're thinking, and how they're feeling, resulting in some pretty wild stories and experiences.

"Every Sim is unique in The Sims 4, your own individual creations that come to life with big personalities and endless possibilities," explained executive producer Rachel Franklin. "Who they are on the inside changes the way you play. Your Sims embody the traits and aspirations you give them in The Sims 4, and playing out their charming, hilarious and crazy stories has never been more fun."

Of course, The Sims 4 has many other new features including completely revamping the Create A Sim and Build Mode systems. Both systems feature direct manipulation and drag-and-drop functionality. When building a Sim, you can literally sculpt the finer details of their body, while adding rooms to a house can be done with a simple click of the button.

Publishers are certainly within their rights to withhold advance review copies, but I find it odd -- given all the big changes with The Sims 4 -- that EA wouldn't want fans to read up ahead of time. Perhaps with all the fuss about toddlers and pools, EA thought it best to let those fans who are dedicated to the franchise just dive right in. Whatever the case, we're hoping to have our review up as soon as possible.
