Sony has assured PlayStation Network users that no personal information has been accessed as a result of today's DDoS attack.

For those who haven't been keeping up with today's craziness, PSN was the victim of a huge DDoS attack by a hacker named FamedGod (though earlier it was believed to be Lizard Squad).

Sony acknowledged the issue on Twitter, but just now -- well, a bit ago when our site was down -- the compay posted a more in-depth response on the official PS Blog.

Like other major networks around the world, the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network have been impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic.

Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been accessed.

We will continue to work towards fixing this issue and hope to have our services up and running as soon as possible.

We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

Unfortunately, there's no word on when the service will be restored. As always we'll keep you updated.

FamedGod actually released a video explaining his reasoning for the DDoS attack, citing a weakness in Sony's security policy. Check out the full video and statement from FamedGod here.
