Broken Age Part 2 funding complete thanks to Steam sales

Splitting adventure game Broken Age into two parts and releasing the first half on Steam early has apparently paid off for developer Double Fine Productions.

"We've made enough that we can make the second half of the game for sure," Tim Schafer, the studio's founder, told GI.biz. "And we're not done making it to all the platforms because we haven't released it on iPad yet."

Double Fine made the decision to put Part 1 of its Kickstarter-born point-and-click adventure up on Steam before the rest of game was finished. Backers got it early, and then it released to the public on Jan. 28. The second half will be available later as a free update.

The developer hoped to acquire more money through those Steam sales to supplement the $3 million it received on crowdfunding site Kickstarter. Double Fine's second Kickstarter project, Massive Chalice — a tactical role-playing game — has yet to launch. It's due this September.
