DICE thinks making Star Wars: Battlefront is "scary"

DICE is scared about screwing up Star Wars: Battlefront. At BAFTA in London, DICE executive producer Patrick Bach spoke about the pressure of working in the Star Wars universe -- specifically working on a fan favorite game like Battlefront.

Of the weeks leading up to EA's acquisition of the series, Bach said, "It's quite interesting. For some strange reason -- coincidence, I don't know -- we had a discussion at the office about what happened to Battlefront. You know, the old IP that someone else made that was a ripoff of Battlefield. Bastards! We should've made it. It was a competition of powers. We couldn't do both at the same time."

A week later, EA was negotiating with Disney and asked if DICE was to make Battlefront. It was a no-brainer. That said, the pressure on this title is a lot, and Bach admitted, "We weren't as cocky when we got the chance, because to take on something like this is scary, as you can imagine. You can only screw up, right?"

There's a lot of room to screw up, yes; that said, I don't trust any other developer more than DICE to make this game.

"We've been promising ourselves if we're doing this we need to do it right. So trust me, we're hard at work to figure this one out," said Bach.

Star Wars: Battlefront has no release date, but is expected in 2015 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
