Rockstar: Grand Theft Auto Online ‘designed with expansion in mind’

Grand Theft Auto Online is set to launch on October 1st but, according to Rockstar, that is just the beginning for Grand Theft Auto's online universe. Speaking to Game Informer, Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies explained that the online world of Grand Theft Auto has been designed with "expansion in mind," meaning it's quite possible we could see add-on content (either paid or free) in the future.

"Every part of Grand Theft Auto Online has been designed with expansion in mind," Benzies said. "A dream of ours is to create an entire Grand Theft Auto world that consists of everything we've done or are going to do then let players freely move between them.

"The launch of Grand Theft Auto Online is a beginning for us; it gets us a little closer to being able to make that happen."

While the ability to expand with new regions is more in the conceptual stage, Rockstar has already been quite clear that the current version will offer players a "continuous flow of content." In addition to new missions created by Rockstar, GTA Online will also feature user-created content, meaning as long as there's an active user base, there will always be new content to keep you busy.

Although Grand Theft Auto Online launches on October 1st, the actual single-player portion of Grand Theft Auto 5 will be available on September 17th.
