Madden NFL 25 scores big in its first week

Madden NFL 25 sold-through more than one million units during its first seven days at retail (Aug. 27 – Sept. 2), Electronic Arts announced today. As a result, Madden NFL 25 — a celebration of EA's long-standing professional football franchise — was the highest selling game in North America in August, according to internal estimates.

"The strong start for Madden NFL 25 on current generation consoles is a testament to the power of this amazing franchise and its fans," said EA Sports executive VP Andrew Wilson. "It's a big year for our fans as we launch Madden NFL 25 for two different hardware generations, and we're pleased with the early results for the Xbox 360 and PS3. We're confident we can sustain this momentum as we move towards the launch of next generation consoles this Fall with the most innovative Madden NFL yet."

Prior to the game's release, EA had noted soft pre-order numbers for Madden and other key sports franchises on current-gen systems. The company attributed it to the anticipation of next-gen consoles.

Perhaps as a result, EA (along with Microsoft, Sony, and various retailers) have announced upgrade programs from current to next-gen. For those of you planning on purchasing an Xbox One or PS4, you'll be able to trade-in your current-gen copy and purchase its next-gen equivalent for just $9.99. The catch is that the trade-in only works from PS3 to PS4 or Xbox 360 to Xbox One upgrades; the deal is not eligible, say, for Xbox 360 to PS4.

The PS4 is due out on November 15th for $399, while the Xbox One is set to release a week later on November 22nd for $499.
