Battlefield 4 allows easy upgrade from Xbox 360, PS3 to Xbox One, PS4

Recognizing the difficulty consumers face in selecting a platform for Battlefield 4 — especially as we near the arrival of next-gen arrivals — Electronic Arts and DICE have devised a way to make upgrading from current- to next-gen consoles super easy.

"Whether you are playing on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, we want to make your transition to next generation consoles easy. That is why today we are informing the devoted Battlefield community that all the time and effort you spend building up your Battlefield 4 stats will carry over when you upgrade from the Xbox 360 to Xbox One and from the PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4," DICE explained today.

"That way, on October 29, you can get in the game without any worries that you will have to start ranking up all over again when the next generation consoles launch. We got your back."

DICE also announced today the return of Premium membership for Battlefield 4. This will grant players access to themed digital expansion packs, new weekly content and personalization options. And like your profile stats, Premium membership will also be transferrable between console generations.

The Battlefield 4 news comes shortly after Activision announced the same sort of functionality with Call of Duty: Ghosts. During today's multiplayer reveal, it was revealed that individual profiles and the Season Pass will transfer from current- to next-gen consoles in the same family; that means PS3 to PS4 and Xbox 360 to Xbox One; cross-platform switching is not supported for either title. It also looks like you'll have to pay full price for the different versions of the same game (unless you take advantage of GameStop's Call of Duty: Ghosts offer for Xbox).
